Okay. Technically, there isn’t such a thing. Advertising by definition is paid for. But, could it be there is a FREE way to sell to your clients with mass media? You bet!

It’s called an email newsletter. You can send email to anyone who gives you permission. I’m sure you’ve seen the little boxes online that ask for your name and email address. Often, you’ll be required to respond back to confirm you wanted the email.

Another way is to ask your existing clients for their email address. When making an appointment, simply ask for their email along with other routine information like address and phone number. A few people won’t give it out, but most will.

How to properly send email

First, make sure anyone you are sending email to has asked to be on your email newsletter list.

To avoid problems, every email you send must have an option to “opt out.” In other words, if someone doesn’t want to receive emails from you, they should be able to click an unsubscribe link or reply to your email to unsubscribe. If someone asks to unsubscribe, take them off your email list immediately.

Options for sending email

In Microsoft Outlook and other email program, you can send mass emails by using the “BCC” area. This is called a blind carbon copy. Unlike the “To” section, your recipient won’t be able to see the email addresses of the other recipients.

Use an autoresponder

What is an autoresponder? It’s a system that allows you to create an opt-in box for your website, keeps track of all who opt-in, and allows you to send mass emails to your client list. It’s called an autoresponder because it will automatically send emails to your client list. Of course, you need to program the system to send your emails out on a specific date and time. After it’s programmed, it responds automatically—thus the name autoresponder.

There is a FREE autoresponder program called www.Zookoda.com . With Zookoda, you’re able to place an opt-in box (like at www.carpetcaretips.com) on your page. The system keeps track of all who opt in. You can also enter email addresses from your clients if they give you permission. The downfall about FREE Zookoda is it only sends one email messages while other autoresponders can send multiple.

The most popular autoresponder system for service companies is www.constantcontact.com . This system costs $15 per month, but is more versatile and user friendly than Zookoda. Plus, those who join your mailing list aren’t required to respond to an email to officially get on your list as Zookoda, Aweber, and many others. By the way, requiring a user to respond to an email before they actually get on your list will give you a more reliable list. However, you run the risk of many users failing to respond to your first email. If they don’t respond, they don’t get on your list.
